Who are my competitors

I was recently speaking with a business owner who had launched a new website to specifically push accessories in the online space versus their traditional brick and mortar location. When asked who he felt was his competition was, he listed 4-5 businesses within 5-100km of his store’s location. We then went to his computer, typed into Google the name of his best-selling product and got a SERP containing over 380,000 results.

Now there… there is your competition.

The internet has opened up endless possibilities for anyone to locate exactly what they are looking for. In this example, this gentleman was still thinking about who his brick & mortar competitors were. The reality of his situation is that a customer in Australia looking for a product that he sells, could just as easily find his product and buy from him, as they could from a vendor in Germany. As our conversation evolved, he realized that the guy just down the street could buy that same product from his competition 5km away or his online competition physically located 5000km away.

Most consumers research a product or service prior to making that purchase. Even if they have been referred to a specific business, most often they research it to get a feel for them prior to making contact. If you are found in the top portion of someone’s search query, and you present your business’ product or service better than the next business in-line, you are going to be the one who gets the phone call or email inquiry from that person who is looking to do business.

Why not make sure it’s you?

Proper Search Engine Optimization can put your product or service in the best possible position in order to grab the most traffic and then convert it into revenue for your business.
