Google, Users and Your Website

An Australian SEO company recently did a survey asking people how they searched for day to day information such as product reviews, phone numbers, directions, news & general information. The resounding response was they ‘Google it’. I’m sure it’s the same for you.

Google of course is the world’s strongest and most used search engine. It is so dominant in fact that there are only 5 countries in the entire world where Google isn’t the most used online search engine.
What those survey respondents were really saying was they use the internet as their primary source of information gathering; of which Google is their most trusted online gateway to get the information they are searching for.

In order for Google, or any other search engine, to be and remain effective, they must provide their users with as precise of information as possible as it pertains to the user’s specific query. In order to do this, Google looks into its database of almost the entire internet for the most relevant websites/website pages and ranks them in order of importance as they see it.

Here’s where you have the power to tell Google where to put your website – on page 1 or on page 36 of 12 million different results. Believe it or not, it’s up to you.

With a properly built website AND a purpose-built Search Engine Optimization program, the content on your website can rank well for any query a user can make. Because Google relies on the quality and relevancy of your website’s content, putting in a little time and effort, or hiring the right company to do so, will pay dividends over and over again.

Here’s how.

Industry standards (pre-Google Instant – the % is no doubt even higher now) say that on average that you lose 50% of users for every page into a search result. Furthermore, upwards of 75% of those who only look at page 1 of the SERP (Search Engine Results Page), ONLY look at the top 3 results!

Think about the math on that one. Are you on page 3? Page 5? Page 25? Your site is probably never seen – it doesn’t matter how pretty it is. How many people are searching for your product or service each month? Don’t know? A quality SEO company can make sure you do and develop strategies to help generate as much business as possible through quality on-site and off-site SEO.
