So You Could Do That Yourself Eh?
I recently met with a client who we did a new logo for. As we worked through various iterations of potential logos, the client eventually settled on a very simple, yet professional looking logo. After making the selection, they stood back and said, “You know, I could have done that.” (as it was essentially text based)
SEO and Website Design are similar in the manner that, yes, the average-Joe could theoretically do their own SEO, or even build their own website through numerous free resources that can be found on the web. The problems arise when you take a couple factors into consideration.
As with everything in life, there are differences between vendors of similar products/services – hence the saying, “you get what you pay for”. In the example I mentioned, yes, the client could have potentially come up with that idea (although they started with a completely different one) but could they have come up with the subtleties? The shading? The change in font? The proper colourization? How about the different graphic formats for different graphic requirements?
Quite simply, the obvious answer is no.

In its simplest form, I either take content that they write and re-write it from an SEO perspective or I layout a content strategy in which to drive qualified traffic to their site. They commented that they could do what I’m being paid for. Sort of, but in theory, you could also paint your own car but would you? You could in theory build your own house too, but you wouldn’t.
You wouldn’t and you don’t because in order to get the best & safest results, you hire a professional. A person who knows, understands and keeps up to date with all that is new, legal and effective (and in terms of SEO – what is no longer effective). What SEO was 2-5 years ago is so different than what it is today it is mind boggling.
Not only are there SEO companies in Kitchener and area, but all across Ontario, that claim to be doing SEO. They are cheap and promise the world so why not choose them? Some of them slice off such a small piece of what makes up SEO that they miss huge opportunities to actually dominate your competition. Unfortunately they also open you up to SEO penalties – which are not fun to get undone.
